Futon Cover FAQ

How long does it take to make a custom futon cover?

Most custom futon covers are made in about 5–7 business days after we receive all measurements, photos, and order details.

Once complete, your cover ships directly from our Queens, NY workshop.

What size futon cover do I need?

Start by measuring the futon mattress itself: width, length, and thickness. Standard futon mattresses are often Full or Queen size, but futons can vary quite a bit.

Older frames, extra-thick mattresses, custom pieces, loveseat futons, chair futons, RV mattresses, and sleeper ottomans may not match standard sizing. If your measurements do not match a standard size, a custom futon cover is usually the better option.

Do futon covers come in standard Full and Queen sizes?

Yes. Many futons use standard Full or Queen mattress dimensions, and we offer covers designed for common futon mattress sizes.

If your futon measures differently, has an unusual thickness, or is an older model, a custom cover may provide a better fit.

Can you make a custom-size futon cover?

Yes. We can make futon covers for standard and custom-size mattresses, including extra-thick futons, unusual dimensions, older futon frames, sleeper ottomans, and specialty setups.

Custom sizing is especially helpful when the futon is used frequently or when you want a cleaner, more tailored look.

Can you make a cover for an extra-thick futon mattress?

Yes. Many futon mattresses are thicker than standard bedding mattresses, especially premium cotton, foam, and hybrid futons.

We can make covers for a wide range of mattress depths, including extra-thick futons that require custom sizing.

How do I measure a futon mattress?

Measure the mattress when it is flat, not folded on the frame. Measure the full width from side to side, the full length from top to bottom, and the mattress depth from seam to seam.

If the mattress is soft, rounded, or compressed from use, take the measurement at the fullest point.

Should I measure the futon mattress or the old cover?

Measure the futon mattress itself whenever possible. Old covers can stretch, shrink, sag, or lose their original shape over time.

If you want to replicate an old cover exactly, send photos and let us know, but the mattress measurements are usually the better starting point.

Will the cover stay on when the futon folds from sofa to bed?

Yes. Futon covers are designed to stay on the mattress as it moves between sofa and bed positions.

The exact feel depends on the mattress thickness, fabric type, frame style, and how tightly the cover fits. A properly sized cover should move with the futon without needing to be removed each time.

Can you make a cover for a bi-fold futon?

Yes. Bi-fold futons are very common and usually work well with futon mattress covers.

Measure the mattress flat and include the thickness, especially if the mattress is soft, rounded, or extra deep.

Can you make a cover for a tri-fold futon?

Often, yes. Tri-fold mattresses, foldable guest mattresses, and portable floor mattresses can frequently be covered with a custom design.

Photos are especially helpful for these projects because the folding style affects construction and fit.

Can you make covers for loveseat futons or chair futons?

Yes. Futons come in many sizes beyond Full and Queen, including loveseat futons, chair sleepers, and compact apartment-sized models.

Provide measurements and photos and we’ll help identify the best option.

Can you make a cover for a sleeper ottoman mattress?

Yes. We can make covers for many sleeper ottomans and convertible furniture pieces that unfold into a bed.

Measurements and photos help ensure the cover works correctly in both seating and sleeping configurations.

Can I get a matching ottoman sleeper cover?

Yes. Many futon setups include a matching ottoman, chaise extension, or sleeper ottoman.

If you want the pieces to coordinate, choose the same fabric collection and provide measurements for each piece. Custom covers can help create a more finished, intentional look.

Can I get a futon cover for an RV, camper, van, or boat mattress?

Yes. Many RV mattresses, camper cushions, vanlife mattresses, and boat sleeping areas have unusual dimensions that are difficult to cover with standard products.

Custom sizing is often the best solution for these projects.

Do futon covers zip completely around the mattress?

Most futon covers use a zipper closure that allows the mattress to be inserted and removed for cleaning or replacement.

The exact zipper placement may vary depending on the size and style of the cover.

Can a futon cover replace a worn or damaged original cover?

Yes. Many customers order replacement covers when the original futon cover is faded, stained, torn, outdated, or no longer available from the manufacturer.

A new cover can often extend the life of an otherwise comfortable futon mattress.

Can a futon cover help protect against pets, spills, and everyday wear?

Yes. A cover helps protect the futon mattress from dirt, oils, pet hair, minor spills, fading, and everyday use.

For maximum protection, choose a durable performance fabric, pet-friendly fabric, scratch-resistant fabric, or indoor/outdoor fabric.

What fabric is best for a futon used every day?

For everyday use, we usually recommend durable twills, canvas-style fabrics, performance weaves, denim, heavyweight weaves, and tightly woven materials.

These fabrics tend to hold up better to sitting, sleeping, guests, pets, kids, and frequent handling.

What fabric is best for a futon used as a guest bed?

If the futon is used mostly for overnight guests, comfort and appearance are often just as important as durability.

Chenille, cotton, soft velour, SuedeTouch, textured weaves, and other softer fabrics are popular choices for guest spaces.

What fabric is best for pets?

Pet-friendly futon covers should use tightly woven, durable fabrics that resist snagging and everyday wear. Performance weaves, heavy twills, canvas, denim, and scratch-resistant options are usually good places to start.

If shedding is a concern, medium-toned colors and textured fabrics can help disguise hair between cleanings.

What fabric is best for kids, dorms, or playrooms?

For kids, dorms, and playrooms, choose durable fabrics that can handle snacks, lounging, guests, homework, sleepovers, and daily use.

Performance fabrics, textured weaves, darker colors, denim, and heavyweight fabrics are often strong choices.

Are futon covers good for rentals, dorms, and guest rooms?

Yes. Futons are common in guest rooms, short-term rentals, dorm-style spaces, studios, and multipurpose rooms because they work as both seating and sleeping space.

For these settings, choose a durable fabric that is easy to maintain and forgiving with frequent use.

Can I use a futon cover outdoors?

For covered patios, porches, sunrooms, and outdoor lounge areas, choose an indoor/outdoor or performance fabric.

Outdoor fabrics are better suited for moisture, sun exposure, and casual outdoor use, but the futon should still be protected from heavy rain and prolonged damp conditions whenever possible.

Can I order matching pillows with my futon cover?

Yes. Many customers order matching throw pillows, bolster pillows, cushion covers, and ottoman covers in the same fabric.

Using coordinating fabrics can help a futon feel more integrated into the room design.

Should I order fabric samples first?

Yes. Fabric samples are strongly recommended if you are choosing between colors, textures, or performance fabrics.

Screens can make colors look different, and samples let you see the fabric in your room, compare it to existing furniture, and feel the texture before ordering.

Can I wash my futon cover?

Cleaning depends on the fabric you choose. Some fabrics may be spot-clean only, some may require dry cleaning, and some performance fabrics are easier to maintain.

Always follow the care instructions for the specific fabric rather than assuming all futon covers clean the same way.

Will a futon cover shrink?

Some fabrics can shrink, especially natural fibers like cotton if washed or dried with heat.

To protect the fit, follow the fabric care instructions carefully and avoid high heat unless the care instructions specifically allow it.

Can I order futon covers for a hotel, rental, dorm, or business?

Yes. We work with vacation rentals, dorm-style spaces, guest houses, furnished apartments, offices, designers, hospitality spaces, and other business or trade customers.

For high-use spaces, we usually recommend durable, performance-oriented fabrics that can handle frequent use.

Do you offer bulk or trade pricing for futon covers?

Yes. If you are ordering for a rental property, hospitality space, designer project, office, dorm, camp, or other larger project, contact us before ordering.

We can help with fabric recommendations, accurate pricing, and project planning.

What if I am not sure which futon cover to order?

No problem. Send a few photos of the futon, including the front, side, back, and mattress when folded and flat if possible.

Basic width, length, and thickness measurements will also help. From there, our team can help point you toward the best size, fabric, and cover style.
