Furniture Slipcover FAQ
What is the difference between a custom slipcover and an EasyFit® slipcover?
Custom slipcovers are made specifically for your furniture using your measurements, photos, and selected options. They offer the most tailored fit and are the best choice for unusual shapes, T-cushions, attached cushions, loose cushions, skirts, and furniture that does not fit standard sizing.
EasyFit® slipcovers are more affordable ready-made covers designed to fit many standard furniture shapes. They are a good choice when you want a simpler, lower-cost refresh and your furniture is close to a standard size and shape.
When should I choose a custom slipcover?
Choose a custom slipcover when you want the cleanest, most tailored look or when your furniture has details that ready-made covers usually cannot handle well.
Custom slipcovers are especially helpful for T-cushions, oversized sofas, attached cushions, unusual arms, antique furniture, loose back cushions, skirted styles, and furniture with unique proportions.
When is an EasyFit® slipcover a better choice?
EasyFit® slipcovers are a good choice when your furniture is close to a standard shape and you want a faster, more affordable update.
They are especially useful for simple sofas, loveseats, chairs, ottomans with round arms, and more conventional parsons or wood dining chairs that don't have armrests, where a relaxed fit is acceptable.
Which option gives the most tailored look?
A custom slipcover will give the most tailored, upholstery-like look because it is made to your furniture’s actual measurements and shape.
EasyFit® slipcovers can look great on the right furniture, but they are not patterned for one specific piece.
How long does it take to make a custom slipcover?
Most custom slipcovers are made in about 5–7 business days after we receive your measurements, photos, and all required order details.
Once your slipcover is finished, it ships directly from our Queens, NY workshop.
What happens after I place a custom slipcover order?
After you place your order, you’ll receive instructions for submitting measurements, photos, and any other details we need to make your cover correctly.
Our team reviews your information before production begins. If something looks unclear, we may reach out before cutting and sewing the cover.
Do I need to submit measurements right away?
You do not need to have every measurement ready before placing your order, but production cannot begin until we receive the required measurements, photos, and details.
If you need help measuring, contact us and we can walk you through the process.
Can someone help me measure my sofa or chair?
Yes. If measuring feels confusing, contact us before or after ordering and we can help guide you.
Photos are very helpful. In many cases, we can also walk you through the measuring process step by step.
Can a custom slipcover fit a T-cushion sofa?
Yes. T-cushions are one of the most common reasons customers choose custom slipcovers.
Because T-cushions extend beyond the front edge of the armrests, ready-made slipcovers usually do not fit them cleanly. A custom slipcover can be patterned specifically for the shape of your furniture.
Do EasyFit® slipcovers fit T-cushion furniture?
Not the EasyFit® slipcovers, but our custom-made slipcovers can fit on any shape. EasyFit® pre-made slipcovers are generally designed for standard square seat cushions and simple furniture shapes with round armrests.
For sofas or chairs with T-cushions, a custom slipcover is usually the better option if you want a clean, tailored fit.
Can you make slipcovers for attached cushions?
Yes. We can make custom slipcovers for many sofas and chairs with attached seat cushions, attached back cushions, or partially attached cushions.
Attached cushions can vary a lot, so photos are especially helpful before production begins.
Can you make slipcovers for loose seat and back cushions?
Yes. Loose cushions are very common for custom slipcovers. Depending on the design, the furniture base and individual cushions may each receive their own tailored covers.
This often creates a cleaner, more upholstery-like result than a one-piece loose cover.
Can you make slipcovers for oversized sofas?
Yes. We make custom slipcovers for oversized sofas, apartment sofas, loveseats, armchairs, accent chairs, and many furniture sizes in between.
Oversized furniture usually benefits from a custom cover because ready-made sizing can be too short, too tight, or too loose.
Can you make slipcovers for antique or unusual furniture?
Often, yes. Antique and unusual furniture are good candidates for custom slipcovers because standard covers rarely fit them well.
Send photos before ordering if the piece has unusual arms, curves, exposed wood, carved details, unusual cushions, or non-standard proportions.
Can you make slipcovers for IKEA furniture?
Yes. Many customers order replacement slipcovers for IKEA sofas, loveseats, chairs, and sectionals.
Even if you know the IKEA model name, measurements and photos may still be needed to make sure the cover is made correctly.
Can you make slipcovers for recliners?
We generally do not recommend full custom slipcovers for recliners because recliners have moving parts that make fit and long-term function difficult.
If your recliner arms are worn, armrest covers may be a better solution.
Can a slipcover work on leather furniture?
Yes, slipcovers can be used on leather furniture, but leather can be smoother and more slippery than fabric upholstery.
A custom slipcover usually works better than a loose ready-made option because the fit is more secure. Fabric choice also matters.
What fabric is best for a family room sofa?
For a family room sofa, we usually recommend durable, easy-care fabrics that can handle everyday use. Performance twills, performance weaves, heavyweight canvas, heavyweight twill, and pet-friendly fabrics are often strong choices.
If the sofa is used daily, durability and cleanability usually matter more than choosing the most delicate decorative fabric.
What fabric is best for homes with pets?
For pets, we usually recommend pet-friendly, high-durability, tightly woven, and performance fabric collections.
Tightly woven fabrics tend to resist snagging and wear better than loose weaves. If your pet scratches furniture frequently, avoid open weaves, large loops, and delicate decorative textures.
What fabric is best for homes with kids?
For homes with kids, look for durable, forgiving, easy-care fabrics. Performance fabrics, textured weaves, heavyweight twills, and darker or patterned fabrics can help hide everyday messes.
If the furniture is used for snacks, movie nights, playrooms, or daily lounging, choose durability first.
What is the most durable slipcover fabric?
The most durable options are usually high-durability fabrics, performance weaves, performance twills, heavyweight canvas, heavyweight twill, durable ripstop, and tightly woven pet-friendly fabrics.
The best choice depends on how the furniture is used, whether you have pets or kids, and whether the cover needs to feel soft, structured, casual, or formal.
What fabric is softest for a slipcover?
Soft chenille, velour, microsuede-style fabrics, SuedeTouch fabrics, and some textured performance fabrics can feel softer and cozier than crisp canvas or twill.
If softness matters most, order swatches first so you can feel the fabric in person.
What fabric gives the cleanest, most tailored look?
Medium-to-heavy upholstery fabrics with some structure usually create the cleanest tailored look. Twills, canvas, performance weaves, and some textured solids often work well.
Very thin or stretchy fabrics may look more relaxed, while structured fabrics tend to hold shape better.
Should I order fabric swatches before buying a slipcover?
Yes. We strongly recommend ordering swatches before placing a custom order.
Fabric can look different in your home than it does on a screen because of lighting, wall color, flooring, and nearby furniture. Swatches help you compare color, texture, softness, and durability before committing.
Are slipcovers machine washable?
Care instructions depend on the fabric you choose. Some fabrics may be machine washable, while others should be spot cleaned or dry cleaned.
For custom slipcovers, spot cleaning or professional cleaning is often the safest long-term option. Always check the care instructions for your specific fabric.
Will my slipcover shrink?
Some fabrics can shrink, especially natural fibers like cotton if washed or dried with heat.
To protect the fit, follow the fabric care instructions carefully. When in doubt, avoid high heat and consider spot cleaning or dry cleaning.
How do I remove wrinkles from a slipcover?
Many slipcovers can be smoothed with a handheld steamer after installation. Some wrinkles may also relax naturally once the cover is on the furniture.
Always check the fabric care instructions before using heat, steam, or an iron.
Do slipcovers stay in place?
A custom slipcover will usually stay in place better than a loose ready-made cover because it is made to your furniture’s measurements.
Fit, fabric, furniture shape, cushion style, and everyday use all affect how much adjusting is needed over time.
Can I order matching cushion covers, pillows, and ottoman covers?
Yes. Many customers coordinate a full room by using the same fabric across slipcovers, cushion covers, ottoman covers, throw pillows, bolster pillows, dining chair covers, and fabric by the yard.
If you are refreshing multiple pieces at once, contact us and we can help you choose fabrics that work well together.
Can I order only replacement cushion covers instead of a full slipcover?
Yes. If only the seat cushions, back cushions, or pillows are worn, you may be able to replace just those covers instead of covering the entire piece.
This is a practical option when the furniture frame still looks good but the cushions need a refresh.
Can I use slipcovers instead of reupholstery?
Yes. Slipcovers are often a faster, more flexible, and more affordable alternative to reupholstery.
Unlike reupholstery, slipcovers are removable and can be cleaned, replaced, or updated later if your style changes.
How are custom slipcovers different from reupholstery?
Reupholstery permanently replaces the fabric on your furniture and often requires transporting the piece, waiting several weeks, and paying higher labor costs.
Custom slipcovers are removable, easier to update, and made to fit over your existing furniture. They can provide a tailored look without permanently altering the piece.
Can I send my own fabric?
In some cases, yes. We ask that you contact us before sending fabric so we can confirm whether the material is suitable for a slipcover.
Some fabrics are too delicate, too stiff, too stretchy, or too unstable to work well long-term.
Can I make changes after placing my order?
Contact us as soon as possible if you need to make a change. We may be able to update fabric, measurements, style details, or other order information before production begins.
Once fabric has been cut or sewing has started, changes may not be possible.
Can I return a custom slipcover?
Because custom slipcovers are made specifically for your furniture, they usually cannot be returned like a standard ready-made item.
That’s why we recommend ordering swatches, reviewing measurements carefully, and contacting us with questions before production begins.
What if the slipcover does not fit quite right?
If something does not look right when your cover arrives, contact us with photos so we can review the fit.
Our goal is for the cover to look the way it should. If a reasonable fit adjustment is needed, we’ll help determine the best next step.
Do you offer trade or business pricing?
Yes. We work with interior designers, hotels, restaurants, offices, property managers, event companies, hospitality groups, and other business customers.
If you are ordering for a larger project, repeat order, or commercial space, contact us before ordering and we can help with fabric recommendations, pricing, and project planning.
Can you help me choose the right collection?
Yes. Send us a few photos of your furniture and tell us what matters most: tailored fit, durability, pet protection, softness, color, cleanability, budget, or speed.
We’ll help point you toward the best custom or EasyFit® option for your furniture.
