On a larger piece like a sectional, this fabric helps break up the scale without adding visual noise. The micro-check pattern adds texture across wide surfaces, while the warm neutral palette keeps everything cohesive. It’s a clean, tailored look that still feels relaxed enough for everyday living.

Houndstooth has a little more character than a smooth solid fabric. The open weave gives it a lightly textured feel that’s easy to notice when you run your hand across it—substantial without feeling rough. It has a dry, natural hand with a bit of visual depth from the woven pattern, creating a fabric that feels relaxed, lived-in, and comfortable. The texture adds warmth and interest without being heavy, making it an easy choice for everyday furniture that gets plenty of use.

Durability Rating

Durability Rating

Lightweight and flexible. Easy to wash.

Durability
The open weave that gives houndstooth its texture and character also makes it a bit more delicate than tightly woven upholstery fabrics. It holds up well to normal household use, but the raised weave can be more susceptible to snagging from pet claws, sharp objects, or heavy abrasion. If you share your furniture with active dogs or cats, or expect particularly heavy daily wear, a tighter weave may be a more durable choice. For design-conscious spaces with moderate use, houndstooth offers plenty of lasting style and charm.
Care Info
To keep the texture and appearance of this fabric looking its best, we recommend dry cleaning only. The open weave can be sensitive to washing, which may affect the fabric's shape, texture, or overall finish. For everyday care, vacuum gently using an upholstery attachment to remove dust and debris, and blot spills promptly with a clean, dry cloth. Avoid machine washing, soaking, or harsh cleaning products, as they can damage the weave and shorten the life of the fabric.

We are thrilled with our custom made slipcovers for our beach house. We considered having it reupholstered. So happy we did not! It looks as though we have brand new furniture!

FAQs

Most slipcovers are made in about 5 business days in our Queens, NY workshop. Once it’s finished, we ship it right out. (We're New Yorkers so we've got to move fast.)

We offer free ground shipping on most orders. In many cases, you’ll have your new slipcover in as little as two weeks from the time you order.

Pretty much anything. Standard sofas, loveseats, sofa beds, chairs, sectionals, unusual shapes—we’ve seen a lot over the years. If you’re unsure, just send a few photos to sales@slipcovershop.com and we’ll let you know what’s possible. Some fabrics work better for wingbacks, for example, so we can point you in the right direction.

We can't do recliners, unfortunately (hard to sew around so many moving parts).

People choose a custom slipcover when they want their furniture to look great and last for years—not covered up. It’s the right move for odd sizes, loose or attached cushions, T-shaped seats, or anything a one-size cover can’t handle. It’s also how you refresh a worn sofa, protect it from pets or kids, match a new room, or upgrade the fabric without reupholstering. Each piece is made to your exact measurements, so the fit is clean, secure, and built to last.

Don’t worry. We don’t rely on measurements alone.

We also review your photos, tracings, and other details to double-check everything before your cover is made. Our team has made thousands of slipcovers and knows what to look for.

If you’d like help, we can schedule a quick video call and walk you through the whole process step-by-step. We’ll show you exactly what to measure and how to do it. Just give us a ring or email us at sales@slipcovershop.com.

We stand behind every cover we make.

If you’re not in love with the fit, send it back and we’ll fine-tune it until it looks the way it should. It's part of our Perfect Fit Guarantee.*

Yes, you can. We just ask that you send a sample first so we can inspect it. Some fabrics simply don’t work well for slipcovers, and we want to make sure the final result will look great and hold up over time.

You can send samples to our office at 58-25 Laurel Hill Blvd, 2nd Floor, Woodside, NY 11377. But give us a ring or an email, first, so that we can let you know if the fabric is something we can do.

Absolutely—and we recommend it.

Colors and textures can look different on a screen. Ordering a swatch first lets you see the fabric in your home and feel the quality before placing your order.

Your first four swatches are free. After that, we just charge $0.50 for each one to cover the cost of shipping.

Not ours.

Our covers are designed to have a clean, tailored look—more like upholstery than a typical slipcover. Careful patterning and construction make a big difference.

Take a look at the care instructions, above.

While some fabrics are fine to throw in the wash, other do shrink a bit or get wrinkled after the wash. For example, even if you air dry, a hot day in Arizona could shrink a cotton blend cover so that it doesn't fit as well. It's always a good idea to spot clean or dry clean. If you're unsure, just give us a ring.

Every slipcover is cut and sewn in Queens, New York by our experienced team.

We’ve been doing this for over 20 years, and careful craftsmanship still guides everything we make.

Custom slipcovers give you the same tailored, made-for-your-furniture look as reupholstery—without the cost, downtime, or hassle. Reupholstering can take 6+ weeks, often costs thousands of dollars, and it usually means transporting your furniture to and from a shop (which can also be very expensive). Our custom slipcovers are made to your exact measurements and ready to ship in about a week or less, so you’re not living without your sofa. They’re also far easier to live with—removable for cleaning, practical for everyday use, and simple to update if your style changes.

Yes! We work with a wide range of businesses, like hotel chains, corporate facilities managers, outdoor entertainment brands, and a wide range of interior designers. If you'd like to learn more about our Partner Program and special pricing, just reach out to sales@slipcovershop.com.
